Updating FortiGate Firmware via CLI Using Web Interface


Step 1: Preparation


  1. Connect to the FortiGate web interface. Go to the IP address of your FortiGate unit in a browser and log in using the administrator credentials.
  2. Back up the configuration.Once logged in, you will see a user icon in the upper right corner of the interface. Click on the user icon. In the menu that appears, select the Configuration - Backup option. Click OK and the backup will be downloaded to your local PC.

Step 2: Installing firmware via CLI in the web interface


  1. Open a terminal to work with the CLI. In the web interface, go to Dashboard and select the CLI Console widget. This will open a command prompt where you can enter commands.
  2. Use the command to update the firmware. Enter the command to download and install the new firmware image from the file page, for example:

    execute restore image url https://fortiweb.ru/image/c84ec6be57ac46f38fb1bd7dde/56551/image.out
  3. Confirm the firmware update. Once the command is executed, FortiGate will download the firmware and begin installing it. This process may take several minutes. During the installation process, the device will reboot.

Step 3: Checking the firmware version


  1. Check that the update was successful. After rebooting, use the command to check the current firmware version:
    get system status
    Make sure that the correct firmware version is displayed.
